Sri Lankan airport officials say the photo suggests the fruits and vegetables being exported to Muscat, the capital of Oman, are misleading.
This photo was posted on Facebook on August 16, 2020, and has been shared by over 3000 people. The photo shows a photo of President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and a recent consignment of products exported through the Mattala International Airport in Sri Lanka.
It read: “The first stock of local vegetables and fruits is a successful start for America today! Congratulations!
The Sinhala headline also reads: “Successful start! Cheers! ”
Mattala Major Airport Manager Upali Kalansuriya and Airport Operations (Goods) Assistant Manager Ravi de Silva told AFP that the consignment had been sent to Muscat, the capital of Oman, on August 16.
“The consignment, which weighs 3,371 kilograms, was shipped to Muscat, Oman via Salam Airways on August 16, 2020,” de Silva told the news agency by telephone on August 18.
He said a consignment of local garments was exported to the United States ten days before the consignment was to be shipped to Muscat.
